The Best Gun Ranges in Erie
Erie provides a wide range of facilities for target practice. There are numerous clubs which
provide extensive facilities to horn your shooting skills.
Public ranges such as provided by the State
Game Commission are a good starting point or you
may want to join private clubs. Listed are a few good
private and public sites:
Public Range
The Pennsylvania Games Commission offer
opportunities for hunters and rifle sports enthusiasts
to practice their skills at various ranges around the
State. The Northwest region has three open ranges with
one in Erie. The range at Erie constitutes a 100 yard
10 firing points rifle and a 25 yard 3 firing points
handgun, facilities. Visitors are well advised to pay
extra caution in these places, frequented by the public.
These sites can be very busy during the hunting seasons
and are vulnerable to closure without prior notice.
Private Clubs
Spring
Rod and Gun Club The Spring Rod and Gun Club is
located at Cambridge Springs. As the name suggests,
the club is tailored to meet the demands of families
interested in fishing and hunting. Every year, the club
organizes various events and training sessions to guide
and arrange competitive events comprising of Turkey
and Jug shoots, Silhouette and Shotgun practice and
seminars on hunting. Membership entitles you to certain
benefits and is offered at a reasonable rate.
Gem
City Gun Club The Club offers activities directed
by the NRA instructors. It has an indoor and outdoor
shooting ranges along with an archery club. There are
courses available for home safety and personal protection.
Advanced learning techniques pertaining law enforcement
activities can also be studied. Depending on season,
the indoor range remains open until late in the evenings.
North
East Sportsmen Club One of the oldest operating
rifle ranges in Pennsylvania, the club offers a pistol
range, a rifle range and two trap fields. The clubhouse
on Townline Road overlooks the pistol range that has
50, 100 and 200 yard target stands. Membership is available
for a nominal fee but for safety reasons, any new entrants
are to be sponsored by a member in good standing with
the club.
The
Walnut Creek Rifle Club The club is located near
the Walnut Creek Hill. It is a private members club
and offers Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol ranges. Under the
guidance of Pennsylvania Games Commission, hunter education
courses are held at the club every year. Young learners
are welcome to join the club as long as they are accompanied
by adults.
